This research was carried out though the European Union Daphne programme for the protection of women and children. Based on interviews with professionals and young people in Italy, the Netherlands and the UK, it describes differences in the organization of services for children and young people in the three countries. Furthermore, it describes crucial differences in the approach taken both to child protection and the support available to those who experience abuse. The study then details the challenges which face the three systems. Despite the differences evident between the three countries there are also striking similarities. The possibility of adopting similar strategies to address the problem exists.
