The simple version of the agreement
Terms of Service
These Terms of Service explain the rules for using MyBibliotheca, the personal reading tracker operated by MyBibliotheca (“MyBibliotheca,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.
1. The service
MyBibliotheca helps you organize books, track reading progress, and keep personal notes about your reading. The hosted service is currently in beta. Features may change as we improve it, and occasional interruptions are possible while we build and maintain the service.
2. Beta pricing
There is no charge to use MyBibliotheca during the beta. After the beta, each account will include up to 500 books free forever. We may introduce optional paid plans for larger libraries or additional features. If we do, we will explain the plans and pricing before charging you. We will not charge you without your consent.
3. Your account
You are responsible for providing accurate account information, keeping your login details secure, and activity that occurs through your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. Tell us promptly if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission.
4. Your library and content
As between you and MyBibliotheca, you retain any ownership rights you have in the books, ratings, notes, reading history, custom book covers, personal bookshelf ornaments, images, imports, and other material you upload, submit, or add to the service (“Your Content”). Uploading material does not give you ownership of someone else’s work. You give us permission to host, store, copy, process, resize, convert, transmit, and display Your Content through our hosting and storage providers only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service for you, and to comply with applicable law.
Your Content can include personal bookshelf ornaments. Background removal and brush edits happen in your browser; an image is sent to us only when you approve the cutout. Approved ornaments are stored as private WebP images in Cloudflare R2 and displayed only in your account’s bookshelves. You may remove an ornament from your library after removing it from any bookshelf that uses it.
Your library is private by default. If you enable a public page, you instruct us to display your selected public details—your display name, books, and reading statuses, plus ratings or streak information if you choose those options—to anyone who has the link. You can turn the public page off in Settings at any time.
You are responsible for Your Content and for how you obtain, upload, use, export, and share it. You represent that you have the rights, permissions, and consents needed for those activities and for the permissions you grant us under these terms. This applies to custom covers, approved ornament cutouts, and all other uploads, whether stored by us or through Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3, or another storage provider. Private storage, image conversion, background removal, or a successful upload does not establish that content is lawful or that you have permission to use it. Do not upload sensitive information that the service does not need.
5. Imports and connected services
Import features may use files or data from services such as Goodreads or StoryGraph. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices. You are responsible for using exports and imports in accordance with the permissions and rules that apply to you. We do not guarantee that an import will include every field or preserve every detail exactly.
6. Acceptable use
You may not use MyBibliotheca to break the law, attack or probe the service, interfere with another person’s account, distribute malware, send spam, or attempt to bypass usage limits or security controls.
You must not upload, store, import, transmit, or share content that is illegal or infringes another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights. Prohibited content includes child sexual abuse material or other content involving the sexual exploitation of minors; non-consensual intimate images, including unlawful synthetic images; unlawful threats, harassment, or disclosures of personal information; and material that facilitates criminal activity. These restrictions apply even if content is kept private or is never shared outside your account. Do not use cover or ornament uploads as a general file-hosting service or to evade a removal or account restriction.
Content review and enforcement
We do not routinely monitor or pre-screen Your Content for legality or ownership, and hosting or processing it does not mean we approve, endorse, or verify it. Technical file and image checks are not a legal review. Except where required by applicable law, we do not undertake a general obligation to monitor all uploads. This does not limit our obligations to respond to reports, act on known unlawful content, or comply with applicable reporting, preservation, or other legal requirements.
Where permitted by law and consistent with our Privacy Policy, we may review relevant content to investigate a report, suspected abuse, a security issue, or a legal obligation. We may reject an upload, restrict access to or remove content, disable upload features, or suspend or terminate an account for a violation or reasonable suspicion of one. We may act without advance notice where appropriate, including for safety or legal reasons. We terminate accounts of repeat copyright infringers in appropriate circumstances. We may preserve relevant content and records, make legally required reports, and disclose information to competent authorities as required or permitted by law. A deletion request does not override a legal preservation obligation.
Reporting illegal content or infringement
Report suspected illegal content or infringement to [email protected]. Include enough information to locate the material, such as a page URL or available content identifier, explain the concern, and provide contact details so we can follow up. You do not need access to someone else’s private account to make a report. Do not attach, download, or redistribute suspected child sexual abuse material or other illegal images to submit a report.
For copyright complaints, also identify the copyrighted work and the allegedly infringing material, provide your mailing address, telephone number, and email address, and include your physical or electronic signature. State that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law, and that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We will assess reports and take action as required by applicable law. If you believe content was restricted in error, contact the same address with the relevant details; do not re-upload restricted material while the issue is unresolved.
7. Project availability
MyBibliotheca is independently developed. Parts of the project may be publicly available or self-hostable depending on the release. The hosted service is provided under these terms. Using the hosted service does not require you to install, operate, or self-host anything.
8. Changes and ending use
You can stop using MyBibliotheca at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, create a security risk, or threaten the service or other users. We may change or discontinue parts of the beta, but we will make reasonable efforts to communicate material changes.
9. Disclaimers
MyBibliotheca is provided on an “as available” basis during beta. To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties that the service will always be available, error-free, or preserve every piece of data indefinitely. You should keep a copy of anything especially important to you.
10. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, MyBibliotheca will not be responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be limited.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for the legality, accuracy, ownership, or suitability of content supplied by users, or for a user’s unlawful upload, use, or sharing of that content. This does not exclude responsibility imposed on us by applicable law, including responsibility that cannot be excluded for our own acts or omissions.
Your responsibility for third-party claims
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify MyBibliotheca and its operators, officers, employees, and agents against third-party claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable legal costs to the extent caused by Your Content infringing another person’s rights, your unlawful use of the service, or your breach of these terms. This does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own negligence, willful misconduct, or breach of law or these terms, or where mandatory consumer law prohibits this obligation. We will give you reasonably prompt notice of a claim and reasonable cooperation. You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault by us or imposes an obligation on us without our prior written consent.
