A highlight made in KOReader is a note from your reading life. It is different from a public quote, review, or highlight made inside a reading app’s own ebook reader.

KOReader’s bundled Highlight Export plugin lists Readwise, Joplin, and local formats such as JSON, HTML, Markdown, or TXT; it does not list Goodreads or Fable as export destinations. A separate community plugin, ShelfSync, supports KOReader progress, status, and notes for both services. Its documentation describes adding a note from KOReader’s highlight menu, rather than bulk-exporting an existing library of highlighted passages. This is a community workflow, not a built-in Goodreads or Fable feature.

Why a file export is not the same as a reading archive

Exporting to a text or JSON file can be useful for backup. But a separate file may not keep each passage connected to the book, author, edition, progress, and reading history around it.

MyBibliotheca can receive KOReader annotations and display them with the matching book. If the ebook metadata does not clearly identify the correct title or edition, you can confirm it instead of trusting an uncertain match.

Keep highlights private and useful

Your highlights may contain personal reflections, work notes, favorite passages, or ideas you want to revisit later. MyBibliotheca is private by default, so those annotations do not have to become social posts.

The annotation plugin is separate from KOReader progress sync. Use progress sync to keep track of where you stopped. Use the highlights plugin to keep track of what you wanted to remember.

You can also connect Readwise if it is already part of your workflow. Direct KOReader-to-MyBibliotheca syncing is available for readers who would rather not route KOReader notes through another service.
